pelagikos private limited was set up reluctantly in March 2015 to provide technical services and project management assistance to improve and eco-label Sri Lanka’s blue swimming crab fisheries in January 2018 the blue swimming crab fisheries in the Palk Bay and the Gulf of Mannar became the first fisheries in Sri Lanka and the only blue swimming crab fisheries in South and Southeast Asia to be rated as a Good Alternative by the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch(TM) programme in May 2020 the two fisheries became the first fisheries in Sri Lanka and the only blue swimming crab fisheries in South and Southeast Asia to achieve a level equivalent to a Pass without conditions against the Marine Stewardship Council's Fisheries Standard. in 2017 pelagikos commenced work the Seafood Exporters' Association of Sri Lanka, the Government of Sri Lanka and multi-day boat owners' associations to improve and eco-label Sri Lanka’s longline yellowfin tuna fishery pelagikos also creates and finances research and employment opportunities for Sri Lankan undergraduates and postgraduates, in sustainable fisheries and marine resource management |
